The ageing process is a dynamic continuing gradual process. No single treatment option is able to address all the various factors of ageing and provide a complete solution to each individual’s needs. Thus in general most patients will be advised to have a series of treatments specifically tailored to the patient’s needs and expectations. Muscle Relaxants Skin Treatment

Muscle Relaxants

Muscle relaxants such as Botox (which is a registered trademark used by the manufacturer who make the product) is used to relax muscles mainly in the upper forehead areas and around the eyes. This prevents premature wrinkles and smoothes out existing ones, reducing frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet. Muscle relaxant treatment also produces a really good eyebrow lifting effect which opens up the eyes and makes the face look much younger, almost like an instant face lift! Muscle relaxant treatment can also reduce horizontal and vertical neck lines.

Although there is a risk of eye droop, if the correct muscle relaxant technique is used, this risk is virtually none. I practice on the principle that you can always add but you can never take away. So I always put in a little bit first, and then review the patient 2 weeks later and give them a free top up if required.

As with all injections there is a risk of bruising and tenderness immediately afterwards. This usually only lasts 24-48hrs, although you need to inform the Beauty Doctor if you are on any blood thinning treatment. The risk of infection is very minimal if the post treatment hygiene is followed.

Muscle relaxants such as Botox have other uses too, for example to treat facial tics and spasms, head tremors, and torticollis. It is also used effectively for the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the armpits, forehead, and nasal area, and in some cases of neck flushing. Because it stops sweat secretion, there is some evidence for its use in reducing the incidence of recurrent boils in the armpit area.
