The ageing process is a dynamic continuing gradual process. No single treatment option is able to address all the various factors of ageing and provide a complete solution to each individual’s needs. Thus in general most patients will be advised to have a series of treatments specifically tailored to the patient’s needs and expectations. Sculptra Skin Treatment

Sculptra

Sculptra skin treatment has been used internationally since 1999 in an estimated 150,000 patients and in more than 30 countries with such success that it has been called the 'liquid face lift'. This non-invasive treatment corrects the deepest of wrinkles and creases with long term results using bio-degradeable material called poly-L-lactic acid. Studies have shown that Sculptra treatment is even able to correct lipoatrophy, a condition which causes facial fat loss. I use skin numbing cream to minimize discomfort and inject Sculptra using a fine needle.

Sculptra treatment works by stimulating the skin cells (fibroblasts) to produce collagen and therefore tightens and lifts the skin, filling in what has been lost with age. Results are gradual and, depending on the level of improvement desired and the patient's age, lifestyle, and skin condition, generally a course of 3-5 treatments 6-8 weeks apart may be needed until the desired effect is achieved. Each treatment consists of 1-2 vials. This not only depends on the patient's age and skin condition, but also on what the patient feels comfortable with. It's not necessary to have 2 vials per treatments to achieve the same results, but it will take longer, especially for patients over 50 years of age as the volume loss is greater in this age group.

Once the desired results are achieved, this semi-permanent treatment lasts for 2-4 years. Then, when the patient feels a top up is needed only 1 treatment is required every 2-4 years to maintain the skin's condition.

I really like using Sculptra as the effect is gradual, so it's perfect for people who don't want others to know that they've had anything done. Rather than a 'what have you had done?' response, it tends to give a 'gosh you really good today' response. I even had one client who after completing her treatments was asked to produce proof of her age as they didn't believe she was old enough to have a bus pass!!!

However, as with any treatment involving injections there is a risk of bruising, swelling, and tenderness afterwards, which lasts from 2-7 days depending on the patient's age, skin condition, and bruising tendency. You must inform the Beauty Doctor if you are on any blood thinning tablets during the consultation as there are certain conditions when you may not be able to have Sculptra treatment. There is also a small risk of infection, but this is minimal if good post treatment hygiene is followed. There is also a risk of small lumps underneath the skin which can be felt but not seen. If the correct post treatment massage regimen is followed, the risk is minimal. This regimen will be explained prior to your first treatment. If any lumps do occur, they will disappear with regular massage. Very rarely a small red lump which looks a bit like a spot can form on the skin but this will disappear using a mild steroid cream. I've put a link onto the Sculptra website if you want to read more about the treatment.
